Student Travel Grant

Students in Switzerland can receive support from the SSS for a trip every year, either to a conference, to study a natural history collection abroad or to do fieldwork! This year, we will again contribute to trips within systematics projects – at the bachelor, master or PhD level.

Conditions

  • being a member of the SSS (10 CHF for students);
  • being a BSc., MSc. Or PhD candidate in a Swiss research institution;
  • having a research project that includes systematics.

Please note that the grant might not cover all your expenses. We plan to support several students, and this year, we will favour the attendance to the biosyst.EU meeting – although you can of course apply for other conferences, for collection visits or field work as well.

Projects of applicants who do not have financial support from their own institution will be favoured. The funds are given as reimbursement based on supporting documents (train or plane tickets, hotel recepts etc.)

To apply, please send to swisssystematics@gmail.com before 15.05.2026

  • a short curriculum vitae
  • a letter of support of your supervisor, with indication about the (un)availability of internal funding for attending the trip
  • a budget of the total expenses and of the amount requested from the SSS

Depending on the purpose of the trip, add either of these (maximum 2 pages, in English):

  • a short description of the conference, your motivation to attend it, and of your contribution, e.g. an abstract of your presentation or poster; or a short description of the collection you want to visit and of your motivation to study the specimens housed there; or a short schedule of the field work you are planning to conduct, including anticipated results in terms of specimens collected.
